Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of six workers from Ganjam and Gajapati districts in a massive rockfall at Satyakrishna granite quarry in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district.

The announcement came late Sunday evening via an official post on X, detailing the untimely demise of Danda Badatya, Banamal Chera, Bhaskar Bisoi, Santosh Gouda, Takun Dalai, and Musa Jan.

CM Majhi extended his condolences to the bereaved families and announced immediate financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the nearest kin of the deceased.

Responding to the incident, Odisha’s Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and assured the affected families that steps would be taken to repatriate the bodies.

“We will ensure the deceased are returned to their villages with dignity. I have directed the Gajapati district administration to coordinate with Srikakulam authorities for an investigation into this tragic incident,” he stated.

The tragedy occurred at a granite quarry in the Melaiputti mandal, where approximately 15-20 workers were present when the quarry’s edge collapsed during a blasting operation. According to local authorities, the workers—predominantly migrants from Odisha—were on duty since 9 a.m. when the accident struck, burying several under falling boulders. While rescue operations were swiftly launched by police, eight critically injured workers have been admitted to hospitals in Narsaraopeta, with their conditions still under observation.
