The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has escalated its standoff with law enforcement by issuing a strict 24-hour ultimatum to the Delhi Police to allocate a formal date and venue for a peaceful demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
CJP Demands Clarity from Police
Following their recent release from preventive detention, CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and chief spokesperson Saurav Das visited the Parliament Street Police Station to formally seek authorization for the protest. Party leaders stated that they are willing to let law enforcement dictate the specific timing, but insisted that authorities must provide clear directives.
”Where should I carry out our protest? They should tell us in the next 24 hours how we can proceed with the protest. Otherwise, we will give our next call,” Ranka stated during discussions with police officials.
Background of Tensions and Demands
The political friction stems from widespread demonstrations organized to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Previous protest calls led to heavy security deployments across central Delhi, large-scale preventive detentions, and movement restrictions around critical government and transit hubs.
With the 24-hour deadline now active, CJP leadership maintains that their campaign will persist, warning that the party will independently announce its subsequent course of action if police fail to grant formal permission.
