A significant meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, was held today at Lok Seva Bhawan to discuss the progress and implementation of special development projects for Cuttack.

Attended by Cuttack District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde and senior officials from various state government departments, the meeting focused on transformative initiatives to boost the city’s infrastructure, economy, and cultural heritage.

Key discussions included the development of the OMP Square, featuring plans for a vending zone, an IT park, and a convention centre. Similarly, Ranihat Square will see the construction of shops, government residences, and another vending zone, with designs being finalised. Infrastructure improvements were also outlined for Khapuria, including road construction, a garden near Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab’s statue, and a vending zone. The integrated development of Madhusudan Das’s birthplace at Satyabhamapur was another focal point.

The meeting also addressed road widening from Trisulia Square to Nandankanan via Barang to enhance connectivity. A proposed barrage on the Mahanadi River was discussed to address flood control, industrial water needs, drinking water supply, and irrigation. Industrial revival plans included the restoration of the Badamba sugar mill, progress on the Nuapatna handloom project, the revival of the Bhagatpur spinning mill, and updates on the Welspun Textiles project in Cuttack. Additionally, cold storage projects in Cuttack, Banki, Athagarh, and other areas, land development in Naraj, and the establishment of MSME parks across the district were reviewed.

Chief Secretary Ahuja directed departmental secretaries to resolve implementation challenges and expedite project timelines. He also advised the Cuttack District Collector to ensure effective coordination among departments to streamline efforts.

The meeting underscores the Odisha government’s commitment to transforming Cuttack into a hub of modern infrastructure, industrial growth, and cultural preservation, aligning with the state’s broader development goals.
