Vicky Kaushal’s latest historical drama, “Chhaava,” has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing “Uri: The Surgical Strike” to become the highest-grossing film of his career.
On its eighth day, the film’s worldwide box office collection reached approximately ₹343 crore, edging past “Uri’s” lifetime collection of ₹342 crore.
Domestically, “Chhaava” has amassed a net collection of ₹249 crore. The film opened with an impressive ₹31 crore on its first day, followed by ₹37 crore on Saturday and ₹48.5 crore on Sunday. It continued its strong performance into the second week, earning ₹24.03 crore on the eighth day.
Internationally, the film has garnered over $5.3 million (approximately ₹44 crore) in just over a week, contributing significantly to its global success.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, “Chhaava” is a biopic of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Vicky Kaushal portraying the titular role. The ensemble cast includes Akshaye Khanna as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, along with Rashmika Mandanna, Divya Dutta, and Diana Penty in supporting roles. The film has received mixed to positive reviews from critics and widespread acclaim from audiences.
The film’s remarkable performance, especially in Maharashtra, has set new records, with occupancy rates reaching up to 98% in certain centers during weekdays. Industry analysts anticipate that if this momentum continues, “Chhaava” could surpass the ₹500-crore mark by its third weekend, solidifying its status as a blockbuster.
