Chandikhol: Chandikhol Fire Station officer Ramakant Mallik and a fireman Kedar Sethi have been suspended by the department for allegedly blackmailing a woman.
The Fire Officer of Cuttack Central Range has informed in his letter number 2275 that Mallik and Sethi have been suspended after the approval of the Director General of the Fire Department.
According to information, an audio file of fire officer Ramakant Mallik blackmailing a woman for sexual favours had gone viral on social media. Later, he put the blame on the fireman working at the centre. He also stated that the audio was morphed.
There was a strong reaction in various quarters regarding this incident. However, after receiving a complaint from the department, an investigation was initiated and action was taken.
The letter includes instructions that suspended personnel remain at the headquarters during the suspension period. Along with this, the officer of Bari Block Fire Station has been directed to carry out the additional responsibilities of Chandikhol Fire Station.
