With Akshaya Tritiya, one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar, just weeks away, the holy town of Puri has sprung into action to prepare for Mahaprabhu’s Chandan Yatra.
This tradition marks the beginning of the summer rituals dedicated to Lord Jagannath. The ceremonial journey involves the idol of Mahaprabhu, accompanied by Bhu Debi, Sri Debi, and the Pancha Pandavas, gliding on beautifully decorated boats across the serene waters of Narendra Sarovar.
Under the guidance of Sudarshan Mekap, Rath Tatwadharak, and Bhoi Sarddar Rabi Bhoi, five boats were extracted from Narendra Sarovar today. These boats include Nanda, Bhadra, and Baijayantari, which had been submerged since the conclusion of the previous year’s Chandan Yatra. Thirty devoted Bhoi Sevayats tirelessly worked to retrieve the boats in time for this year’s festival.
Following the extraction, the boats will undergo essential repairs and decorative embellishments to ensure they are ready for the grand event.
The preparation efforts on Chaitra Purnima truly encapsulate the spirit and reverence of the Puri community as they eagerly anticipate the upcoming Chandan Yatra.
