The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued an advisory on Thursday to address misleading claims about QR codes printed on its question papers.
Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, clarified that the QR codes are not internet hyperlinks but part of internal systems designed for authentication, tracking, and maintaining examination integrity.
The board explained that scanning these codes only reveals intended text. If users attempt to search the text on Google, unrelated results may appear due to algorithm-driven suggestions. CBSE stressed that such search outcomes have no connection to its examination process.
Officials cautioned that certain individuals deliberately misinterpret these results to malign the board’s image. Bhardwaj stated that linking QR codes to unrelated individuals or content is factually incorrect and misleading.
CBSE urged students, parents, educators, and media platforms to verify information through official communications before sharing. The advisory emphasised responsible information sharing to protect institutional credibility.
Earlier, CBSE warned teachers involved in Class X and XII evaluations against posting misleading information on social media. The board noted that such actions could trigger confusion and spread rumours among students and stakeholders.
