Police in Cuttack district seized a truck allegedly involved in illegal cattle transportation, sparking controversy after the driver accused officers of assault.

The truck, bearing West Bengal registration number WB 11 D 6910, was intercepted while heading towards Andhra Pradesh. Police rescued 25 cattle from the vehicle. Witnesses reported that the animals were crammed inside in distressing conditions, with some heads protruding through the open top of the truck.

The vehicle appeared decorated, with “Mahir” and “Mariam” written on the front glass and “Safe Drive – Save Life” painted on the rear. However, inside, the cattle were packed tightly, raising concerns about cruelty.

Police detained the driver and his assistant at the spot. Later, the driver alleged that officers beat him unnecessarily during the operation. The claim has fueled local debate, with residents demanding a fair investigation into the matter.

Authorities stated that the action was taken in line with laws prohibiting illegal cattle transport and slaughter. Nevertheless, several voices in the community stressed that the assault allegation must also be examined.
