Cricketer Virat Kohli’s upscale pub and restaurant, One8 Commune, located in Bengaluru, has come under legal scrutiny once again — this time for violating anti-smoking regulations under Indian law.
The Cubbon Park Police have registered a suo-motu case against the establishment for not maintaining a designated smoking zone, as mandated by the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003.
The restaurant has been booked under Sections 4 and 21 of COTPA, which govern:
-
Prohibition of smoking in public places
-
Requirement for designated smoking areas in establishments like restaurants and pubs
A police official confirmed that the action was taken based on routine checks and observed violations.
In June 2024, the same restaurant was booked for operating beyond the permissible closing hours.
In December 2024, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued a notice for not securing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Fire Department, citing safety concerns.
One8 Commune is part of a premium hospitality chain co-owned by cricket star Virat Kohli, with outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. The chain is known for its elite ambiance, food, and nightlife appeal.
