Two brothers were brutally murdered and their bodies set ablaze in Shalaban village under Beguniapada police jurisdiction in Ganjam district.
The incident, suspected to be the result of a longstanding personal rivalry, has reignited concerns over safety and law enforcement in the region.
The victims, Sanjay Barik (alias Banka) and his younger brother Ajay Barik, hailed from Sumandal village. Preliminary reports suggest that the brothers were killed in Shalaban, and their burnt remains were later discovered in a deserted area near Mareinuagaon village. Locals who stumbled upon the charred bodies promptly alerted authorities.
Investigators are looking into various aspects, including the victims’ history of alleged criminal activities and past disputes, which could provide crucial leads. Forensic teams and senior officials have cordoned off the area to conduct a meticulous examination of the crime scene.
The police have vowed to apprehend those responsible and assured the public of strict action. “This is a heinous act, and we are working on multiple leads. We urge anyone with information to come forward,” stated a senior police officer overseeing the investigation.
The chilling nature of the crime has sent ripples of fear through the community. To address safety concerns and prevent further unrest, additional police forces have been deployed in the area. The bodies of the victims have been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause and timing of death.
This incident has not only raised questions about personal enmities taking violent turns but has also highlighted the urgent need for stronger law enforcement in rural regions of Odisha.
