A poor labourer died after being hit by a passenger train near Bhalugadia village under Harbhanga block in Boudh district on Saturday night, sparking grief and calls for assistance.
The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when a train travelling from Purunakatak toward Balangir struck Vijay Dal Behera of Luni Bahal panchayat. Police from Boudh Adarsha station, led by officer Nalini Kant Dash, reached the site and began an investigation. The body was sent to Boudh District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem.
Police are probing whether the death resulted from an accident or other circumstances. Locals demanded a transparent and speedy investigation to uncover the truth. The incident has raised questions and deep concern among residents.
Vijay Behera belonged to a poor family and worked as a daily labourer. He leaves behind his wife and three minor daughters. His sudden death has left the family without any source of income. Villagers and social workers urged the government to provide immediate financial assistance, livelihood support, and educational aid for the children.
Residents requested widow pension, housing benefits, and inclusion of the family under welfare schemes. They warned that without timely help, the family could face severe hardship. The community called for prompt government intervention to ensure justice and relief.
