A bomb threat call sent shockwaves through Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport early Saturday, prompting a rapid response from law enforcement agencies.

The Mumbai Police control room received multiple calls warning that a bomb had been planted at Terminal 2, triggering a coordinated security sweep across the premises.

Personnel from Mumbai Police and a bomb disposal squad conducted an extensive search of the airport, but no suspicious items or explosives were found. The operation lasted several hours before authorities confirmed the threat was unfounded.

According to preliminary investigation, the calls were made from three separate mobile numbers, all traced to areas near the Assam–West Bengal border. Officials have launched a probe to identify and apprehend the callers, with special attention to motive and prior threats.

This isn’t the first time the Mumbai airport has been targeted by such hoaxes. In May, similar threat calls were made warning of bombs at the airport and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. All were proven false after thorough checks. One of those previous threats cited political protest motives linked to Afzal Guru’s death sentence.

As investigations continue, Mumbai Police emphasised the seriousness of such acts and the need for stringent legal measures to deter future hoax calls, especially those targeting public safety and critical infrastructure.
