A motorcycle crashed into a roadside tree near Godarapalli Chhak under Belgaon Police limits in Ganjam district late last night, resulting in the death of 34-year-old Shankar Behera from Keuta Sahi in Hinjili.
According to sources, Shankar had visited his in-laws in Durbandha village along with some colleagues earlier in the evening. On his return to Hinjili around midnight, his motorcycle (OD07 AC 7855) reportedly hit a tree adjacent to the road near Godarapalli Chhak and veered off into a nearby canal.
On Saturday morning, locals heading to nearby farms discovered Shankar’s body and the damaged motorcycle. They immediately alerted Hinjili Police, who arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Since the location falls under Belgaon jurisdiction, Hinjili Police informed their counterparts, who seized both the body and the motorcycle.
A case has been registered under Belgaon Police Station (Case No. 149/25). The deceased was sent for postmortem examination at Brahmapur Medical College & Hospital.
