After a series of bomb threat emails targeting courts in Odisha, normalcy returned today as proceedings resumed in Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Deogarh district courts.
In the morning, threatening emails warned of explosions at the court buildings, sparking panic and briefly halting operations. Police immediately rushed to the sites, tightening security and deploying bomb squads and dog squads for thorough inspections inside and outside the premises.
Following detailed checks, no suspicious objects were found. Court authorities permitted the resumption of hearings, bringing relief to lawyers, staff, and litigants. The atmosphere of fear eased, though police deployment continues, and security measures have been further strengthened.
The Director General of Police earlier assured the public that investigations into the threats are ongoing and urged citizens not to panic. The cyber cell remains active in tracing the origin of the emails.
Officials acknowledged that such threats disrupt judicial functioning and emphasised the need to identify and apprehend those responsible quickly. The state government has directed that security across all courts be enhanced to prevent further incidents.
