The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken stringent measures to curb arbitrary parking fee collections in the parking lots around the historic Khandagiri and Udayagiri caves area in the state capital.
Raids were conducted on the parking facilities, leading to the issuance of show-cause notices to the lessees. Strict directives have also been given to mention the parking time on every ticket.
Complaints have been pouring in for a long time from tourists and visitors about being forced to pay excessive parking fees near the Khandagiri caves. Allegations include charging more than the prescribed rates and collecting arbitrary fees without noting the parking duration on tickets. In response to multiple complaints received by BMC, the enforcement team carried out raids in the Khandagiri area.

During the raids, show-cause notices were served to the parking lot lessees. They have been instructed to collect parking fees only at the prescribed rates and to mandatorily mention the parking time and date on each ticket. BMC has warned that failure to comply could result in the cancellation of their leases. This action is expected to benefit everyone from tourists to regular visitors.
Khandagiri-Udayagiri caves are a major tourist attraction in Odisha, drawing thousands of people daily. However, parking issues have often led to inconveniences. The public has welcomed BMC’s initiative, and officials have stated that such strict enforcement will continue in the future.
