A gruesome murder shocked Jharsuguda district on Friday morning after locals discovered a blood-soaked body near the Muchbahal Health Centre under Belpahad Municipality.
Police identified the deceased as Sujan Kumar Mahat, 39, a resident of Gumula village in Jharkhand. He had lived in Muchbahal for nearly two decades and worked as a driver for a private coal company in Lakhanpur.
Villagers spotted Sujan’s body lying on the roadside and immediately informed Belpahar police. Officers reached the scene, seized the body, and began an investigation. The police also called a scientific team to assist in collecting forensic evidence.
Investigators examined the surroundings and the condition of the body. They suspect the incident to be a planned murder. However, the motive and identity of the culprits remain unclear.
Police said the post-mortem report will reveal the exact cause of death. The incident has triggered panic and tension in the area, with residents demanding swift justice.
