A sixth-grade student from Maranpalli village under Kalimela block in Malkangiri district died during treatment after attempting suicide inside his school hostel.
The student, identified as Raj Karami, studied at UG Government SSD School in Koimetla Gram Panchayat. He was the only son of late Ganga Karami and Jogi Karami and had one sister.
On June 27, 2026, Raj tried to hang himself while classes were in progress. Teachers rushed him to the nearby Kalimela hospital. As his condition worsened, doctors shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital in Malkangiri.
District officials, including the Collector, Tehsildar, BDO, and BEO, intervened to ensure advanced treatment. They referred him to Koraput Medical College and Hospital for specialised care. Despite efforts, Raj died on July 2, 2026, while undergoing treatment.
