Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha MP Sulata Deo has come under fire for her controversial remarks regarding the Pahalgam terror attack victims.
The attack, which occurred on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir, claimed the lives of 26 tourists. Deo questioned the victims’ claims that the terrorists targeted male tourists based on their religion, stating, “It is not possible to ask about the religion of so many tourists in such a short duration. We should not link terrorism to any particular religion.”
Deo’s comments have drawn criticism from various quarters. Debi Prasad Mishra, a senior BJD leader, disapproved of her statement, advising against hurting the sentiments of the victims’ families.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Jaya Narayan Mishra condemned Deo’s remarks, calling them disrespectful to the victims and the nation.
Facing mounting backlash, Deo apologised, expressing regret if her comments offended anyone.
The incident has ignited a broader discussion about religious sensitivity and the narratives surrounding terrorism.
