Authorities at Rivalakana High School in Kolnara block have expelled seven Class X students following a serious ragging and assault incident against junior hostel boarders.
The action came after a video of the assault went viral, sparking outrage among parents. On Wednesday, over 100 parents staged a protest at the school, demanding the immediate transfer of the headmaster and strict punishment for the accused students. The situation turned tense, prompting intervention by Chandili police station officer Uttam Kumar Sahu, District Welfare Officer Asima Rao, and other officials, who pacified the agitating crowd.
Earlier, one student had been expelled and a police complaint lodged against six others. The seven accused reportedly fled into nearby hills but returned after the situation calmed.
The violence was allegedly triggered after Class IX students complained to teachers about the misconduct of a Class X student and his associates. Following a warning from a teacher, the accused retaliated by leading a group attack on junior hostel boarders.
