Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police launched a Left Zone Free Drive across the capital to enforce strict traffic discipline and ensure smooth passage for ambulances and emergency vehicles.
The campaign began at 40 traffic posts, with Additional Police Commissioner Narasingha Bhol personally reviewing its implementation.
Under the initiative, the left lane of major roads must remain clear at all times. Police officers explained that vehicles blocking the left lane often delay ambulances, school buses, and other emergency services, putting lives at risk. The campaign aims to prevent such obstructions and create awareness among commuters.
Authorities emphasised that residents should keep three lanes open, leaving the left side free for emergency movement. Police also announced plans to install bollards at key junctions to maintain lane discipline.
During inspections, officers addressed local citizens, urging them to cooperate. They reminded people that keeping the left lane clear could save the lives of their own family members in emergencies. Police officials stressed that public cooperation is the key to the success of this initiative.
The campaign will expand to other parts of the city, with continuous awareness drives to educate drivers and pedestrians. Commissionerate Police confirmed that the Left Zone Free Drive will remain a priority to improve traffic management and safeguard emergency services.
