In a shocking revelation, Balipatna police have exposed a dramatic ploy involving a self-inflicted gunshot wound aimed at falsely implicating an innocent man.
The injured individual, Deeptiranjan Mohapatra, was found to have orchestrated the entire incident in an attempt to frame the husband of a rape survivor.
According to authorities, Deeptiranjan, previously arrested in a rape case, harbored resentment against the victim’s husband, who had actively sought justice. In an elaborate scheme, Deeptiranjan stood outside the victim’s house and shot himself in the arm to make it appear as though he had been attacked. The sound of gunfire triggered panic, prompting an immediate investigation into what initially seemed to be an assault.
However, inconsistencies in his statements and forensic analysis soon uncovered the truth—the bullet trajectory did not align with an external attack. Investigators also tracked down and arrested the individual who supplied the firearm used in the staged incident.
Deeptiranjan remains hospitalised and will be taken into custody once his condition stabilises, while legal proceedings are ongoing against both him and his accomplice.
