Odisha Vigilance officials apprehended Revenue Inspector (RI) Nagendra Kumar Das of Radhaballavpur, under Dhamnagar Tahasil, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 to submit a favourable enquiry report in a land mutation case.
The trap was laid following a complaint filed by a landowner who had applied for mutation of his inherited and gifted land records on August 3, 2025. Das had initially demanded Rs 7,000 to process the request, receiving Rs 2,000 as the first instalment. When the complainant expressed inability to pay the remaining Rs 5,000, Das allegedly reduced the demand to Rs 4,000.
Left with no alternative, the complainant approached Vigilance authorities. Acting promptly, a team of officials caught Das red-handed outside the RI office, while accepting the second and final instalment of the bribe. The entire amount was recovered and seized from his possession.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Das to investigate possible disproportionate assets (DA).
A case has been registered under Balasore Vigilance PS Case No.14/2025, Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is currently in progress.
Officials confirmed that further details will be shared upon completion of the inquiry.
