Odisha Vigilance achieved another major success in its anti-corruption drive after the conviction of Indrajeet Sahu, Former Inspector of Excise, Sadar Range, Bargarh, in a bribery case.
On June 20, 2026, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bargarh, sentenced Sahu to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. The court found him guilty under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Investigators proved that Sahu demanded and accepted a bribe from a complainant to avoid registering an Excise offence for selling mohua flowers—an alcoholic beverage—without a license. The Vigilance team had earlier charge-sheeted him after collecting strong evidence.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance announced that it will move the competent authority to stop Sahu’s pension benefits. Officials said the verdict reinforces the agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability in public service.
