At least seven devotees died and 30 others sustained injuries when the roof of an under-construction Hanuman temple collapsed during a religious programme at Yashwadi in Manwat taluka of Parbhani district on Saturday afternoon.
Officials confirmed that the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, with six reported to be in critical condition. Manwat tehsildar Pandurang Mochewad said rescue teams reached the site quickly and coordinated efforts to pull trapped devotees out of the debris.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as the roof caved in during the gathering. Emergency responders worked tirelessly to clear rubble and provide immediate medical assistance.
Parbhani district Guardian Minister Meghana Bordikar assured that financial aid will be extended to the families of the deceased and the injured. She emphasised that the administration will take all necessary steps to support victims and prevent such tragedies in the future.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the collapse to determine whether structural lapses or negligence contributed to the incident. The tragedy has sparked concern over safety standards at religious and public construction sites.
Community leaders expressed grief over the loss of lives and urged strict enforcement of safety measures to protect devotees during large gatherings.
