Balasore: A driver’s last-minute manoeuvre as he suffered a cardiac arrest saved 70 passengers of a tourist bus near Patapur Chhak under Nilagiri police limits in Balasore district on Tuesday.
The deceased driver has been identified as Sheikh Akhtar of Howrah area.
As per preliminary information, the bus carrying tourists from West Bengal was proceeding towards Panchalingeswar Temple in the district when the driver suffered a heart attack.
With sudden pain in his chest, the driver stopped the bus on the side of the road before falling unconscious. The passengers called the locals and rushed him to Nilagiri hospital where the doctor pronounced him dead.
The passengers as well as locals lauded the presence of mind of the driver, who saved the lives of the passengers by taking immediate steps and stopping the bus to ensure the safety of those on board.
