Late at night in Bhadrak, miscreants launched a deadly attack on an auto driver, leaving him critically injured.
The attackers struck him with sharp weapons, looted Rs 4,320 in cash, snatched a gold chain, and smashed his mobile phone.
The victim, identified as Manoj Mallik of Charampa Baula Pokhari village, reported that around midnight on January 26, he had taken passengers from Charampa station to Jagannath temple near Bhadrak bypass. About ten youths suddenly surrounded him and assaulted him. Hearing his cries, locals rushed to the spot, forcing the attackers to flee.
Mallik was admitted to Bhadrak Medical College in a blood-soaked condition. His family lodged a complaint at the Bhadrak Town Police Station. Police confirmed that an investigation has begun to identify and apprehend the culprits.
