Panic gripped Raipur village under the Dhusuri police station limits in Bhadrak district following a high-stakes armed robbery on Thursday night.
Six masked and armed miscreants barged into the house of Pitabasa Rout, holding eight family members hostage at gunpoint and fleeing with heavy loot.
According to reports, the well-planned operation involved six criminals, four of whom entered the house while two kept watch outside. Eyewitnesses stated that the gang was armed with four pistols and sharp weapons (bhujalis).
The miscreants terrorised the family members by brandishing weapons and demanding cash and valuables. When the family initially resisted, the robbers threatened a young child present in the house. Terrified for the child’s safety, the family handed over their gold ornaments while the criminals smashed open an almirah to steal the cash inside.
The stolen items include:
-
5 pairs of earrings
-
2 mangalsutras
-
2 gold rings
-
2 gold chains
-
₹70,000 in cash
During the commotion, the miscreants physically assaulted several family members and reportedly fired five rounds of bullets to create terror in the area.
Police Action and Investigation
Upon receiving information, Dhusuri Police Station Officer Ajay Bage rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. A sniffer dog squad and a scientific team were deployed to collect forensic evidence from the scene. Police recovered one live bullet and a helmet from the spot.
Bhadrak Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Rout stated that local involvement is suspected. “Both Tihidi and Dhusuri police are conducting raids at various locations. The culprits will be tracked down and arrested very soon,” he assured.
