Paris Hilton has defended her family’s Disney-themed Halloween costumes after facing an online backlash for dressing as Princess Belle whilst her two-year-old daughter, London, was dressed as Chip the teacup.
The 45-year-old media personality and entrepreneur shared photographs across social media featuring her husband, Carter Reum, dressed as the Beast, alongside their three-year-old son Phoenix as Lumière and daughter London as Chip from the 1991 animated classic Beauty and the Beast.
Social Media Backlash Over Costume Roles
Following the upload, critics accused the reality television star of overshadowing her children and using them as “accessories” by taking the leading princess role for herself rather than letting her toddler dress as the lead character.
Multiple social media users commented that Hilton was “stealing the spotlight” and failing to let her children take centre stage during the holiday, with some labelling the dynamic as “narcissistic.”
Paris Hilton Sets the Record Straight
Responding directly to the online commentary via Instagram, Hilton clarified that the family’s costume choices were dictated entirely by her children’s personal preferences rather than a desire to steal the limelight.
”Beauty and the Beast is one of their favourite movies,” Hilton wrote. “London said she wanted to dress up as Chip. She said it was her favourite character in the movie.”
Hilton added that her family regularly embraces fairytale themes for domestic celebrations, emphasizing that the children were delighted to portray their preferred characters from the Disney feature.
