Ariana Grande’s Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good took a disturbing turn on Thursday, November 13, when a man ran toward the singer on the yellow-brick-road carpet and grabbed her. The incident, captured from multiple angles, overshadowed the film’s debut and left fans alarmed.
What Happened at the Premiere?
Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda in the highly anticipated film, was walking the carpet at Universal Studios Singapore alongside co-stars Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Erivo, and Jeff Goldblum when the man sprinted toward her.
The individual, wearing a white shirt and shorts and sporting long black hair with blue streaks, turned abruptly and put his arm around Grande, pulling her close. The singer appeared startled and attempted to step away.
Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, reacted instantly. She stepped between Ariana and the man, shouting at him as security quickly intervened and escorted him away. Grande looked shaken as Yeoh and Erivo stayed by her side.
Attacker Identified as Serial Red-Carpet Crasher
Fans quickly identified the man as Johnson Wen, a 25-year-old Australian influencer widely known online as “Pyjama Man.” Wen later bragged about the incident on social media, posting the clip with the caption:
“Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me jump on the Yellow Carpet with you ❤️.”
This incident is not Wen’s first disruption. He has previously:
-
Jumped on stage during a Katy Perry performance (June)
-
Attempted to crash a The Weeknd concert (August)
-
Accosted Virat Kohli during an event
His repeated stunts have drawn heavy criticism online.
Fans Outraged: ‘How Is He Not in Jail?’
Social media users condemned Wen’s behaviour, calling it dangerous and disrespectful. Some top reactions included:
-
“You’re the reason why we get fewer appearances in Asia.”
-
“Does it bring you joy to disturb celebrities?”
-
“Because of your nonsense, she might NOT come back to Singapore again!”
-
“Imagine making this your entire personality.”
-
“This is not a flex. Have some respect!”
Many fans expressed concern that the incident could affect Ariana’s upcoming promotional events.
