The Ministry of Higher Education has launched a nationwide campaign to tackle drug abuse in academic institutions.
As part of this initiative, each college and university will designate an Anti-Drug Inspector from its faculty to oversee campus vigilance and promote a drug-free environment.
This move follows the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) newly issued guidelines to create drug-free campuses across India.
Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj shared that the inspectors will monitor and report any drug-related activities, ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment. The initiative also includes a week-long awareness campaign across campuses, focusing on discussions, workshops, and student engagement.
Institutions will emphasize yoga, physical fitness, and nutritious food as part of the campaign. These activities aim to promote holistic well-being and steer students away from substance abuse. Faculty members entrusted with this responsibility will receive orientation and support to carry out their duties effectively.
The government hopes this proactive approach will foster a culture of vigilance and responsibility among students and staff. By integrating wellness and awareness into campus life, the initiative seeks to eliminate drug influence and reinforce positive habits.
