Gunanidhi Nayak, retired Revenue Inspector of Kumurisinga Circle under Angul Tahasil, received a two-year rigorous imprisonment sentence for accepting a bribe.

On October 31, 2025, the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul, convicted Nayak under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The court confirmed that Nayak demanded and accepted a bribe from a complainant in exchange for submitting a verification report in a mutation case.

Earlier, Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Nayak after conducting a detailed investigation. The court not only sentenced him to jail but also imposed a fine. This bribery conviction reflects the state’s determination to eliminate corruption from public service.

Consequently, Odisha Vigilance plans to approach the competent authority to initiate pension stoppage proceedings against Nayak. The department intends to ensure that convicted officials do not continue receiving government benefits post-retirement.

Moreover, the case underscores the vigilance department’s dedication to promoting transparency and accountability. By securing this conviction, the department reinforces its stance against abuse of power and strengthens public confidence in anti-corruption efforts.

Ultimately, the bribery conviction of Gunanidhi Nayak sends a clear message: no official stands above the law.
