The Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani, convicted Nabin Kumar Satpathy, former ASI of Police at Kiakata Police Station, Angul district, and later Court ASI at Deogarh Court, in a bribery case filed by Odisha Vigilance.
Satpathy was charge-sheeted in Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No.12 dated 25.07.2023 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. He had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant to extend undue help in a case registered at Kiakata Police Station, where he was the Investigating Officer.
The court sentenced Satpathy to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000.
Odisha Vigilance announced that it will move the competent authority to dismiss Satpathy from service following his conviction.
