A high-level delegation from Andhra Pradesh visited the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today to explore the city’s cutting-edge Solid Waste Plasma Technology Treatment Plant.
The visit, aimed at studying Bhubaneswar’s innovative waste management techniques, saw active participation from senior officials of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema District, including Commissioner K.V.R.R. Raju, District Panchayat Officer Smt. Daggumalla Shantalakshmi, Regional Pollution Control Board Engineer M.B.S. Shankar Rao, and District Industries Officer P.K.P. Prasad.
The delegation received an in-depth briefing from BMC engineers about the operational processes, benefits, and costs associated with the plasma technology plant. Questions on waste collection, treatment, and monitoring were addressed in detail by BMC’s Additional Commissioner Shri Subhendu Kumar Sahu and Assistant Commissioner N. Ganesh Babu, who emphasized the efficiency of plasma technology in tackling solid waste.
After a tour of the treatment plant and related facilities like MCCs (Micro Composting Centres) and MRFs (Material Recovery Facilities), the Andhra Pradesh officials were visibly impressed with Bhubaneswar’s sustainable practices. The delegation plans to propose implementing a similar waste management system in their jurisdiction, with hopes of enhancing environmental conservation efforts in Amalapuram Municipality and beyond.
The visit concluded with a ceremonial welcome at BMC headquarters, where the Andhra Pradesh team was presented with floral bouquets, mementos, and coffee-table books. The interaction signifies a promising collaboration between the two states in sharing sustainable urban solutions.
