E-commerce giant Amazon has initiated a fresh round of targeted workforce reductions, eliminating fewer than 1,000 corporate roles globally, with staff in India, the UK, and the US among those affected.
The latest job cuts primarily target the company’s Stores division—which oversees its primary e-commerce marketplace—and span functions including customer service, marketplace support, and engineering teams.
Internal Communication & Company Confirmation
Affected employees began posting about the job cuts on internal Slack channels, detailing notification emails received from management.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the development, describing it as a strategic operational adjustment:
”We’re always looking at our team structures to ensure we’re best set up to move fast as we innovate for customers,” the spokesperson stated. “We’ve adjusted parts of our Stores business because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities. As part of these changes, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles, and we’re committed to supporting affected employees through their transition.”
Part of Broader Streamlining Effort
While significantly smaller than the 30,000-job restructuring wave that spanned into early 2026, the new round reflects CEO Andy Jassy’s ongoing push to flatten management structures and eliminate bureaucratic layers.
Addressing the continued workforce adjustments, Amazon founder and Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos noted in a broadcast interview that continued recalibration has been necessary to address pandemic-era overhiring when demand experienced an unprecedented spike.
The layoffs coincide with the launch of Amazon’s high-volume festive shopping events, including the Great Indian Festival sale in India and Prime Big Deal Days globally.
