A high-impact workshop titled “AI in Polytechnic Education” was inaugurated today at Government Polytechnic, Bhubaneswar, signalling Odisha’s strong push to make diploma students future-ready in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha, formally inaugurated the programme and delivered the keynote address.
Emphasising the rapidly evolving job market, Poonia said, “Understanding and adopting AI is no longer optional — it is essential for our diploma students to remain competitive.” He assured full government support for initiatives that strengthen advanced technological competencies in polytechnic institutions across the state.
The workshop featured two power-packed technical sessions. In the first session, “AI for Smart & Sustainable Humanity,” Prof. Dr. Srikanta Patnaik, Founder Director & Chairman, I.I.M.T., Bhubaneswar, illustrated how AI is driving innovation and sustainable development across engineering domains.
The second session, “Careers, Future Trends & Opportunities in AI,” was conducted by Meesam Hyder, Vice President – Strategy, AI & Digital Transformation, MyOumph Networks Private Limited. He outlined in-demand job roles, industry expectations and the skill sets that will define the next decade.
More than 80 diploma students participated enthusiastically. The day-long programme focused on practical AI tools, real-world applications in different engineering streams, ethical considerations in technology, and concrete career pathways in the AI ecosystem.
The Principal of Government Polytechnic, Bhubaneswar, and senior faculty members were also present, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to aligning its curriculum with industry 4.0 demands.
