The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in a joint operation with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), successfully intercepted and neutralised a major narcotics smuggling attempt in the Arabian Sea, west of Lakshadweep.
The high-seas operation led to the arrest of five Pakistani nationals and the seizure of approximately 526 kilograms of high-grade contraband, valued at over Rs 3,000 crore in international markets.
Relentless Tracking and High-Seas Pursuit
Operating on precise actionable intelligence, the ICG deployed a robust combination of sea and air surveillance assets to maintain relentless tracking of a suspicious Iranian dhow. On September 25, following an intense hot pursuit, security forces successfully boarded the vessel. The search yielded a massive stash of premium contraband comprising heroin and methamphetamine.
The intercepted dhow, along with its arrested crew and the seized narcotics, has been brought under heavy armed escort to Mumbai. The suspects are currently undergoing joint interrogation by multi-agency teams, paving the way for comprehensive legal proceedings.
Striking at the Financial Engine of Crime
An official statement issued by the ICG emphasised the tactical brilliance and vigilance of the force:
“This operational success exemplifies Bharatiya Tatrakshak’s unyielding maritime dominance, robust surveillance grid, and resolute commitment to maintaining zero tolerance against illicit activities within India’s sovereign waters and extended maritime zones.”
Authorities noted that this mission directly aligns with the Central Government’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan—a nationwide initiative dedicated to creating a drug-free India through mass awareness, capacity building, and rehabilitation programs. By cutting off the financial lifelines of hostile foreign cartels and stopping toxic synthetic substances before they hit mainland shores, the operation serves as a crucial force multiplier for national security.
“Bharatiya Tatrakshak remains fully postured to defend the nation’s sea borders, shield the country’s youth from the scourge of drugs, and uphold absolute security across the maritime domain,” the ICG reaffirmed.
