The legal net tightened further around 84-year-old industrialist and Gem Group chairman R. Veeramani on Monday as the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Tamil Nadu police registered a fresh POCSO case against him.
The new case was lodged following a formal complaint by a woman who alleged that her minor daughter was sexually abused by the accused.
The development comes as an all-women Special Investigation Team (SIT)—constituted to spearhead the sprawling probe—actively evaluates testimonies and complaints brought forward by victims and their families.
Veeramani, who was initially arrested under the POCSO Act in August, is currently in police custody alongside three co-accused associates—former employee Ganeshan, Shanthi, and Simhan.
Investigators noted that on Monday, a victim’s mother appeared in person before the SIT in Chennai to register her statement, prompting the immediate filing of the second formal case under relevant sections of the law.
The SIT, comprising senior women police officers including Additional Commissioner of Police (CCB) P.C. Thenmozhi, Joint Commissioner Disha Mittal, SP J. Mutharasi, and DCP V.V. Geethanjali, is aggressively widening the scope of the inquiry.
Authorities urge anyone with information, digital evidence, or details about the network to come forward, guaranteeing complete confidentiality through their designated investigative channels.
