In an unprecedented proactive measure, the Delhi government has announced a comprehensive set of anti-pollution restrictions nearly three months ahead of peak winter. The seasonal action plan aims to curb severe deterioration in air quality that routinely affects the National Capital Region during the winter months.
Starting November 1, 2026, parking charges across all authorized public parking facilities in the capital will double. The price increase, which runs through February 28, 2027, is specifically designed to discourage commuters from using private vehicles and reduce vehicular emissions. Parking facilities owned and managed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be exempt from this hike to encourage public transport usage.
Mandatory Remote Work & Staggered Hours
To ease road congestion and peak-hour traffic emissions, authorities have mandated a 50% work-from-home (WFH) arrangement for both government and private sector employees.
Additionally, office schedules are being restructured. From November 1 through February 28, 2027:
- Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Offices: Will operate from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Delhi Government Offices: Will operate from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
Blanket Ban on Construction and Dust Activities
Addressing dust as a primary contributor to PM2.5 and PM10 pollution, dust-generating demolition work and outdoor civil construction will be restricted starting November 1. This will escalate to a complete ban on all construction and demolition activities across the capital from December 10, 2026, to January 20, 2027.
By announcing these curbs months before winter sets in, officials hope to establish structural compliance early and mitigate the hazardous smog episodes that traditionally engulf the region.
