In a landmark push for industrial and social development in western Odisha, Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal met with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan to pitch a series of transformative mega-projects.
At the forefront of the announcement is a state-of-the-art, 1,000-bed super-speciality hospital planned for western Odisha, aimed at dramatically improving healthcare access in the region.
During the high-level meeting, discussions also centred on expanding Vedanta’s industrial footprint, highlighted by a massive Rs 1 lakh crore investment to establish a 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) aluminium smelter plant in Jharsuguda. To facilitate this expansion, the state government has already allocated 500 acres of land. The ambitious project is projected to generate roughly 50,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, with construction slated for completion within two and a half to three years.
The talks further emphasized operationalizing key regional mineral sources, specifically the Sijimali and Karlapat bauxite mines, to secure a steady raw material supply for the expanding Jharsuguda refinery and smelter operations. Company leadership noted that optimising these local resources is vital for sustaining large-scale production and maximising regional economic value.
By combining heavy industrial manufacturing with robust social infrastructure like advanced healthcare and localised job creation, Vedanta continues to cement its long-term partnership with Odisha’s growth trajectory.
