Ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly beginning tomorrow, Speaker Surama Padhy has convened an all‑party meeting today to seek cooperation from ruling and opposition members for orderly proceedings.
The meeting is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Leader of Opposition, Congress Legislature Party leader, and whips of different parties.
The Monsoon Session will run from September 22 to October 3, with most days reserved for official business. September 26 has been earmarked for Private Members’ Business, including Bills and Resolutions.
Political parties are preparing their strategies: the BJD legislature party will meet at 5 pm today, while the Congress Legislature Party will meet tomorrow morning. The opposition is likely to corner the government on issues such as the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, alleged textbook printing errors, and the law and order situation.
Security has been tightened around the Assembly, with 36 platoons of police and over 150 officers deployed to maintain order during the session.
