Infovalley Police arrested two men on Sunday following an extortion attempt and physical assault on a landowner at Harapur on the city’s outskirts.
The arrested individuals have been identified as the main accused, Brundaban Samantasinghar alias Chhabi (47) and his associate Chandra Sekhar Pradhan alias Alok (21).
According to the complainant, Rabindranath Nayak, the incident took place around 5 PM on Saturday, September 12. Nayak was inspecting construction work on a plot bought in 1989 in Mouza-Chaitanyaprasad along with his contractor when Brundaban, Alok, and several accomplices confronted him.
The group demanded Rs 30 lakh in extortion money. When Nayak refused, Brundaban attempted to strangle him while the accomplices knocked him down and beat him with bamboo sticks. PCR police rescued the victim and shifted him to Jatani Hospital for medical treatment.
Infovalley Police registered a case (No. 395/2026) under various sections of the BNS and the Arms Act. Police seized a bamboo stick used in the crime and forwarded both accused to court, while operations continue to track down the absconding accomplices.
