The Odisha Government has intensified its crackdown on unsafe and dilapidated buildings across the State, announcing a 15‑day inquiry to identify structures posing risks to public safety.
Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said that government buildings already flagged as unsafe have been reviewed, with notices issued for demolition wherever required. He emphasised that the drive will extend to private buildings, with owners of structurally vulnerable properties receiving statutory notices.
The Minister clarified that unsafe structures under the H&UD Department will be acted upon directly, while those belonging to other departments will be referred to respective authorities. Urban Local Bodies in cities such as Kataka and Puri have been tasked with closer inspections of old and risky structures.
A special inquiry team has been constituted to conduct detailed inspections and submit findings within 15 days. Based on its report, unsafe buildings will face demolition to prevent accidents and safeguard lives.
Dr Mahapatra reiterated that citizen safety remains the Government’s foremost priority: “No unsafe structure posing a threat to public life will be allowed to remain unattended.”
