Passengers traveling on the popular Puri–Patna Express can look forward to a significantly smoother, safer, and more comfortable journey starting this weekend.
East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced the complete conversion of Train No. 18405/18406 Puri–Patna–Puri Express from traditional Integral Coach Factory (ICF) coaches to state-of-the-art Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches.
The modern fleet will kick off its commercial service from Puri on September 5, 2026, followed by the return service from Patna Junction on September 6, 2026.
Designed with advanced German technology, LHB coaches bring a host of advantages over older rolling stock. Engineered for higher speeds, better anti-climbing features during derailments, and upgraded suspension systems, these coaches minimize track noise and vibrations, offering a distinctly superior ride quality.
The upgraded 18405/18406 Puri–Patna–Puri Express will feature a balanced 18-coach composition tailored to diverse passenger needs:
- AC Classes: 1 Second AC Coach (2A) and 3 Third AC Coaches (3A)
- Non-AC Sleeper: 8 Sleeper Class Coaches (SL)
- General Class: 4 General Second Class Coaches (GS)
- Utility & Accessibility: 1 Divyang-friendly Coach (with luggage space) and 1 Generator-cum-Brake Van
This upgrade reflects East Coast Railway’s persistent push to modernize its fleet and phase out legacy ICF coaches across long-distance routes. For regular commuters and pilgrims traveling between Odisha and Bihar, the transition guarantees improved onboard amenities, higher seating capacity, and an overall safer transit experience.
