For Runu Pradhan, a tailor from Ward No. 9 of Phulbani Municipality, building a home meant more than four walls—it meant dignity, security, and a future for her two daughters.
A widow and sole breadwinner, Runu applied under PMAY‑U 2.0 in 2025 and received her work order on June 12, 2025. With determination, she completed her house in just three months and ten days, earning the Early Completion Incentive.
However, the construction demanded sacrifices. Time spent supervising the work reduced her tailoring hours, leading to wage loss. Recognising this challenge, the government extended support through the PMAY‑U BANDHU initiative, granting her ₹25,000 compensation in 2026. This ensured that her pursuit of a secure home did not come at the cost of her family’s livelihood.
Runu’s story was highlighted during the State‑Level Local Self‑Government Day 2026, where she interacted with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. She shared her journey of resilience, her responsibilities as a mother, and the transformation brought by the housing scheme.
Her experience reflects the broader spirit of PMAY‑U BANDHU—supporting beneficiaries beyond construction by recognising wage loss and providing financial relief. Today, Runu and her daughters live in a safe, dignified home, a foundation for education and aspirations.
