Commemorating the Seva Sankalpa Abhiyan, the Department of Water Resources organised a plantation program at the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) campus in Pratapnagari to reinforce its commitment to water conservation and environmental sustainability.

A total of 76 native and climate-resilient saplings were planted during the event.

The initiative aims to translate the core values of the Seva Sankalpa Abhiyan into tangible public service by nurturing ecological responsibility towards society and nature.

By introducing native tree species, the department seeks to safeguard natural resources while building a greener environment for future generations.

The plantation drive featured species such as Peepal, Karanj, Bakul and Guava, selected for their adaptability to the climatic conditions of coastal Odisha.

The trees are expected to contribute to ecological balance, improve soil water retention and support local biodiversity as they mature.

The department said the use of native species would also help strengthen environmental resilience while creating a greener setting for future generations.

The programme was attended by senior government officials, including Prafulla Kumar Swain, Special Secretary, Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell; Ashok Kumar Behera, Director, Rehabilitation & Resettlement; Subrat Kumar Nayak, Additional Secretary; and Goutam Kumar Sethi, Director, WALMI.

Officers and staff members of the Department of Water Resources and WALMI also participated in the plantation programme.
