Odisha witnessed 214% excess rainfall in the past 24 hours, with several districts recording heavy to extremely heavy showers. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state’s average rainfall stood at 24.9 mm, against the normal 7.9 mm.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Sundaragada’s Tensa (162.2 mm), followed by Debagada’s Barkote (127.2 mm), Kendujhar’s Hatadihi (118.5 mm), Anugola’s Kanhia (106 mm), and several other stations reporting over 80 mm. Bhubaneswar received 20.1 mm, while Kataka recorded 17.6 mm.
The IMD attributed the heavy showers to a low‑pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and northwest Bay of Bengal, coupled with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km altitude. The system is expected to move northwestwards over the next 24 hours.

- Day 2 (Sep 1–Sep 2): Yellow alert for Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Debagada, Subarnapur, Nuapada, and Balangir.
- Day 3 (Sep 2–Sep 3): Yellow alert for Baragada district.
🌊 Fishermen Advisory
Strong winds at 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected along the Odisha coast and adjoining sea areas. Sea conditions will remain rough to very rough, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till September 1. Local cautionary signal No. 3 has been hoisted at all ports.
Authorities have warned of possible waterlogging, damage to crops and weak structures, road blockages, and disruption of electricity and communication networks. Residents are advised to stay indoors, secure doors and windows, and follow official instructions.
