Shefeen Ahamed K, IPS, a 2003‑batch Odisha‑cadre officer serving as Inspector General of Police, CID‑CB, Odisha, passed away on Monday morning at 7:15 am while undergoing treatment for cancer at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 50.
A native of Kerala and an engineering graduate from the College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET), Ahamed had been heading the Odisha CID Crime Branch since July 2023. He was the son of Habib (Habeeb), a former CITU leader. Colleagues across Odisha and Kerala described him as an honest officer whose untimely death is a major loss to the police force.
Ahamed began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police and went on to serve in key posts including Superintendent of Police in Jharsuguda, DIG South Western Range, DIG Technical, IGP Home Guards, IGP Human Rights Protection Cell, and DIG at Police Headquarters after returning from deputation. He also served on inter‑cadre deputation in Kerala, where he worked as SP (Rural) in Thiruvananthapuram.
He earned recognition for his work in Cyber Crime and the CID Crime Branch, receiving honours and medals for his initiatives. Officers remembered him as a professional with deep operational experience and a quiet, dedicated approach to duty.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief in a social media post, calling Ahamed’s service to the state and Odisha Police unforgettable.

Ahamed’s passing leaves a significant gap in Odisha Police’s senior leadership, particularly in crime investigation and cyber security. Funeral and last‑rites details are awaited from his family in Kerala.
