The US Secret Service has confirmed it is aware of a video aired by Iranian state media that appears to threaten the life of Barron Trump, the youngest son of US President Donald Trump.
The confirmation came after reports that the nearly three-minute video, broadcast by Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, contained references to Barron’s publicly known locations and appeared to encourage violence against him.
“We investigate anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring said in a statement quoted by the Associated Press.
The spokesperson declined to provide further details, citing operational security.
What did the Iranian video show?
According to a CNN report cited by Hindustan Times, the video opened with an English-language graphic asking, “Where to kill Barron Trump?!”
It reportedly showed stylised graphics highlighting locations where Barron Trump is publicly known to spend time, including Trump Tower in New York.
The video also referred to a purported $10 million reward, according to the report.
The broadcast was carried by IRIB, an Iranian state media organisation regarded as aligned with hardliners. Its head is appointed directly by Iran’s supreme leader.
A federal law enforcement source cited by CNN said the video was part of a broader series of videos targeting President Trump and members of his family.
Iran-linked threats against Trump family
The reported threat against Barron comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran and a series of threats directed at Trump and his family.
Iranian media have previously circulated material threatening the US president following the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to the report.
Trump has also publicly spoken about threats against him. At a NATO summit in July, he said he believed he was on an Iranian “kill list” and described those threatening him as “evil” and “sick”.
US officials have long warned about potential Iranian retaliation against Trump following the 2020 US drone strike that killed Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani.
Secret Service response
The Secret Service has not disclosed whether the latest video has resulted in any changes to Barron Trump’s security arrangements.
The agency said it does not discuss protective intelligence or operational details publicly.
The confirmation nevertheless highlights the security concerns surrounding members of the presidential family amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran.
The reported video comes at a particularly sensitive time, with Iranian state-linked messaging continuing to target Trump and his family following the conflict between Washington and Tehran.
