The State Government of Odisha is maintaining constant vigil over the rainfall and flood situation triggered by a low‑pressure system.

According to the latest report from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the overall situation remains under control but is being monitored round the clock.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, and Boudhagada districts, with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph. Several other districts, including Baleshwar, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Nayagada, are also likely to receive heavy rainfall.

In the past 24 hours, Odisha recorded an average rainfall of 32.9 mm, with Joda block in Keonjhar district reporting the highest at 169.4 mm. Cumulative rainfall from June 1 to August 24 stood at 1,083.2 mm, which is 32.1% above normal.

As of 9:00 AM today, the Baitarani River at Akhuapada and the Jalaka River at Mathani were slightly above warning levels. Flood impact has been reported in blocks across Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kalahandi, and Koraput districts. Relief camps have been opened, and assistance is being provided to affected families.

To strengthen rescue and relief operations, 67 teams have been deployed, including 15 ODRAF teams, 8 NDRF teams, and 44 Fire & Emergency Services teams. The Government has released ₹170.30 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and supplied 1,562.81 metric tonnes of cattle feed to affected districts.

Authorities have advised vigilance against localised waterlogging, landslides, crop damage, and vulnerable structures. Fishermen have been strictly warned not to venture into the sea until August 24.

The SEOC continues to coordinate with all District Emergency Operation Centres (DEOCs), ensuring preparedness to safeguard lives and property as the State braces for further rainfall.
