The Odisha Government has extended the Chief Minister’s Road Scheme (MMSY‑CUVDA) for another five years, up to 2030‑31, to strengthen road connectivity in remote and Left‑Wing Extremism (LWE)‑affected regions.

According to a notification issued by the Department of Rural Development, the scheme’s extended phase will involve an estimated expenditure of Rs 1,300 crore and aims to construct 1,150 km of new roads and bridges across identified inaccessible areas.

The initiative focuses on improving communication links in tribal and backward regions, ensuring better access to essential services and economic opportunities. The department stated that the extension will help accelerate development in vulnerable zones and enhance administrative reach.

The scheme, originally launched to connect rural habitations and promote inclusive growth, has already improved infrastructure in several districts. Under the new phase, special emphasis will be placed on Maoist‑affected areas, with new road and bridge projects designed to ensure safe and reliable connectivity.

Officials said the extended plan will also include quality monitoring, maintenance protocols, and coordination with district administrations to ensure timely completion and sustainability of projects.
